The challenge
The BILD Lagezentrum is one of BILD’s most high-profile formats in the field of real-time news analysis. Its coverage of the war in Ukraine, in particular, stands out for combining journalistic speed with in-depth context — often produced several times per week, in real time, and with a clear editorial stance.
The format relies on visual clarity, in-studio hosting, expert commentary overlays, and authentic on-the-ground soundbites from crisis zones. But how can such a sensitive, politically charged format be scaled internationally? Simple subtitling wouldn’t meet the journalistic standard. The goal: full lip-synced translation at native speaker level.
At the same time, it was clear that a purely manual approach — involving interpreters, studio voice-over, and post-production — would be neither economically viable nor logistically feasible at this frequency.
